Saakashvili beat premier, reports say
Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili has
physically beaten Prime Minister Grigol Mgaloblishvili, local media
reports.
The reports claimed that during the incident that took place last week, Saakashvili even threw a phone at the premier.
Georgian newspapers claimed that the president had hit Mgaloblishvili in the face. Mgaloblishvili immediately tendered his resignation, saying he would not be able to work under these conditions. But the head of state tore up the resignation, said media reports. The reports also said Saakashvili has asked Mgaloblishvili for an apology.
The causes of the incident are unknown, the Georgian media said, adding that it had happened in the presence of some eyewitnesses who were not named.
It is not the first time the Georgian leader shocked the public with his actions. In August, the BBC showed footage of him chewing his tie while in an apparent state of distress.
