Iran’s Statistical Center says the inflation rate in the country’s urban areas in the 12th month of the Iranian calendar year (Feb. 20 – March 20) fell by 0.5 percent compared to the preceding month, standing at 11.3 percent.

The country’s point-to-point inflation in the mentioned month also fell by 0.4 percent to 8.5 percent, ILNA news agency reported March 21.

The point-to-point inflation rate statistics identifies the rate between distinct points in time, such as the inflation rate at the end of a month compared to the rate of inflation at the end of the same month of the previous year.

The report also suggested that the consumer price index (CPI) in Iran’s urban areas stood at 222.8 units in the 12th month of the last fiscal year (ended March 20), which is 0.2 percent more than in the preceding month.

The CPI for foods, drinks and tobacco products stood at 258.9 units, showing no change compared to the preceding month.

Meanwhile, the CPI for services and non-edible goods hit 210.4, indicating 0.2 percent monthly fall.

Inflation rate in Iran in 2005 was about 10.4 percent, but in mid-2013, when President Hassan Rouhani came to power, the inflation rate and point-to-point inflation rate were 37.5 percent and 44 percent, respectively.
