Bush comes under `shoe attack`

Bush comes under `shoe attack`
US President George Bush came under a "shoe attack" during a news conference held while he was in Baghdad on Sunday.
A journalist threw his shoes at Bush who moved aside, managing to duck as both shoes were hurdled.
Shoe throwing is considered an insult among Arabs. Several years ago, hundreds of people threw their shoes in Iraq during the symbolic destruction of a monument to deposed leader Saddam Hussein.
As he threw the first shoe on Sunday, the journalist yelled insulting words at the US president, saying they were "a farewell gift from the Iraqi people." While throwing the second time, he shouted "this is a message from our widows, orphaned children and those killed in Iraq."
The assailant was detained by the security service.
President Bush treated the incident in a jocular fashion, saying he did not sense any threat. "I can only say that the size of the shoe was 40."
