Kazakhstan's coal output hits 1.5 billion tons

Kazakhstan has produced 1.5 billion tons of thermal coal since starting the development of Bogatyr open-pit coal mine 45 years ago, the country’s Samruk-Energo company reported on November 30.

Bogatyr coal mine provides Kazakhstan’s power plants with fuel, while at least 30 percent of coal is exported to Russia.

Bogatyr Komir company operating at Bogatyr coal mine is one of the world’s largest enterprises that carries out open-cast coal mining at two mines – Bogatyr and Severny.

The total balance sheet reserves of the company near 3 billion tons of coal. Today, the Bogatyr Komir company accounts for about 65 percent of the total volume of coal mined in the Ekibastuz basin.

Bogatyr Komir is equally owned by Samruk-Energo and Russian Rusal company.
