Armenian ex-minister seeks return to politics
Former Armenian foreign minister Vardan Oskanian is
seeking to return to politics, he has told a local television
network.
Oskanian said that as a person, former minister and a citizen of Armenia he wants to participate in the political firmament.
"I feel a need to do that and will return to politics at the opportune moment. Time will show whether I will return on my own or as part of a political party," he said.
Oskanian said the relations between the incumbent authorities and the opposition were not good.
He noted that the Armenian people did not have a proper understanding of the notion of opposition, which has led to a number of mistakes over the recent years. The former minister said the opposition should turn into a force capable of solving different problems while the authorities should not see the opposition only as a threat to themselves.
Oskanian went on to say that his desire to return to politics had nothing to do with former president Robert Kocharian. He said he has met with the former president quite often.
"Kocharian is having a rest and has yet to decide what he would like to do. As for me, I have made the decision to return," he said.
Observers recall that after being succeeded by Eduard Nalbandian in April of this year, Oskanian established a fund called "Be A Citizen." In a statement for the media in June he said that the objectives of the fund were to promote Armenian foreign policy in the world and contribute to democratic development of the country.
