Gazprom: Russia to raise gas sales to Europe
Russia will raise the volume of gas it sells to
European markets in the near future, the general director of
Gazpromexport, the export arm of Russia`s gas monopoly Gazprom, has
said.
Alexander Medvedev told an international forum entitled "Russian gas-2008" that gas exports to Europe would reach 219-227 billion cubic meters by 2020. 189bn cu. m. of the bulk will be purchased under existing contracts, while the remaining 30-38bn cu. m. will be exported under new agreements and prospective projects, Medvedev said.
He said it was pivotal to complete the construction of the North Stream and South Stream pipelines to meet Europe`s demand for Russian gas. "These pipelines will allow us to transport additional 86bn cu. m. of gas to Europe annually," the Gazpromexport general director added.
Gazprom, the world`s largest gas producer, supplies Europe with a quarter of its gas via Ukraine and Belarus.
