US said to recognize alleged massacre
The United States will formally recognize the so-called Armenian genocide early next year, Hurriyyet newspaper has quoted Turkish diplomats as saying.
Further, diplomats believe that progress in improving Armenian-Turkish relations is unlikely to prevent America from recognizing the genocide. The Armenian lobby has reportedly stepped up its efforts to that end.
"However, we have taken action to prevent this from happening. We have been in touch with Barack Obama`s and Joe Biden`s advisors so they might understand how subtle this issue is," a senior Turkish diplomat has said.
Turkish diplomats also noted that Ankara and Washington continue to disagree on four issues: Cyprus, Iraq, Afghanistan and the alleged genocide.
