Leading company intends to build pharmaceutical plant in Kazakhstan

Hikma Pharmaceuticals, a leading multinational pharmaceutical company with headquarters in London, intends to construct a pharmaceutical production plant in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

This was announced by representatives of the company at a meeting with Kazakh Investment and Development Minister Aset Isekeshev, the Central Communications Service under the Kazakh President reported.

Construction of the facility, which will correspond with GMP international standards, is scheduled to begin later this year. The volume of foreign investment involved in the project will amount to 11 billion tenge.

Hikma Pharmaceuticals Company plans the enterprise to be in charge of producing antibiotics and drugs to treat diabetes and diseases of the central nervous system.

The products will be oriented both to the domestic market and for export to the countries of the CIS, Central Asia, and Eastern Europe. The enterprise will create more than 300 new jobs.

Hikma Pharmaceuticals develops and produces original medicines and generic drugs. The company produces about 700 medical drugs and sells them in more than 50 countries. In 2014, its revenues amounted to $1.5 billion, while total profit stood at $282 million.
