Reaching Iran-P5+1 nuke deal not likely
Reaching a nuclear agreement between Iran and the P5+1 (the US,
UK, France, Russia, China, and Germany) group is not likely, said
Alaeddin Boroujerdi, head of Iran’s Parliament National Security
and Foreign Policy Commission.
“Due to excessive demands of the other side and the resistance of
us, the possibility of reaching a final agreement is not high,”
Iran ’s Mehr news agency quoted Boroujerdi as saying on June
17.
The Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission
has approved that any agreement should be ratified by the
parliament, he noted.
On June 13, Boroujerdi also said the nuclear talks have reached a
very difficult stages.
He went on to say the Parliament backs an agreement that safeguards Iran ’s nuclear rights within the framework of the Non-Proliferation Treaty.
The country’s foreign minister has been required to present a
report to the parliament once every six months about developments
in the nuclear talks, he said.
Meanwhile earlier Ali Larijani, the Islamic Republic parliament
speaker said there is no need for parliament approval if Iran and
the P5+1 negotiators achieve a comprehensive nuclear deal.
In the Islamic Republic, the cases that are in the supervision
of the Supreme National Security Council do not need parliament
approval due to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamanei’s
permission.
Iran and the group P5+1 are working to reach the June 30 deadline
for striking a nuclear deal.
Both sides maintain, despite partial progress, disagreements remain
unsolved especially in the details of the agreement.
