Pakistan boosts ties with Turkmenistan

Pakistan is aimed at making joint efforts to further enhance the mutually beneficial partnership with Turkmenistan in various areas of bilateral relations, Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussain’s message to Turkmen counterpart Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov published by the Turkmen media reads.

The message was timed to coincide with National Flag Day, which is celebrated in Turkmenistan on February 19.

Currently, Turkmenistan and Pakistan are interested in implementing the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline construction project.

An agreement on purchasing and selling of Turkmen gas was signed with Pakistani company "Inter State Gas Systems (Private) Limited" in May 2012.

The design capacity of the TAPI will be up to 33 billion cubic meters of gas per year.

The total length of TAPI will reach 1,735 kilometers. Some 200 kilometers of the pipeline will run through Turkmenistan, 735 kilometers - through Afghanistan, 800 kilometers - through Pakistan to the settlement of Fazilka, located on the border with India.
