Tbilisi to host major business forum
By Mushvig Mehdiyev
Tbilisi will host high-level delegations and almost 1,500 business persons from more than 60 countries for an important business event on May 13-15 this year.
Preparatory and technical works for the Annual Meeting and Business Forum of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development have been practically completed by the Georgian government.
Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili discussed the activities implemented so far at the government meeting on January 16.
Most of the events within the Annual Meeting will be held at building of the Georgian parliament in Tbilisi, while the Rustaveli theater is prepared to host the opening ceremony.
Garibashvili and EBRD President Sir Suma Chakrabarti are expected to make the opening speeches at the Annual Meeting and Business Forum.
"It will be an unprecedented event not only Georgia, but also in the wider region, as a number of high-ranking guests will visit the country. This is very important in terms of enhancing Georgia's promotion. We picked Tbilisi to introduce our shareholders to Georgia's culture and architecture, as well as the success achieved by the country," Bruno Balvanera, EBRD Director for the Caucasus said.
Earlier in September, Chakrabati welcomed Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili at the EBRD headquarters in London to mull the excellent relations between the two sides, as well as the bank’s continued support for further development of Georgia’s economy.
Since the launch of its operations in Georgia, the EBRD has invested over 2 billion euros in the country, covering 171 projects in the fields of energy, transport, agribusiness, general industry and banking.
