Georgia, NATO officials to meet in Brussels
By Mushvig Mehdiyev
The NATO and Georgian officials prepare to gather in Brussels this week to discuss the process of reforms in Georgia and NATO’s assistance.
The NATO-Georgia Commission (NGC) meeting will be held on January 14 at the NATO headquarters in Belgium, said David Kereselidze, Spokesman for the Georgian Foreign Minister.
The delegation from Georgia will attend the meeting together with the representatives from 28 member-states of the military alliance.
The parties will discuss Georgia’s Annual National Program (ANP), the document which reflects Georgia's short- term and medium-term strategies, as well as focus on various issues from military reforms to foreign and security policy, and economic development.
Although the meeting will be held at the level of ambassadors, Georgia’s State Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration David Bakradze and First Deputy Foreign Minister David Dondua will also participate in the talks.
The Georgian officials said Georgia perceived the ANP as an integration instrument by annually developing this document since 2009.
The document reflects the all substantial reforms and issues that serve to bring Georgia closer to NATO standards.
The NATO-Georgia Commission was established in September 2008 to set a ground for both political consultations and practical cooperation to help Georgia achieve its goal of membership in NATO.
