Moscow accuses Tbilisi of rekindling war
Russia has accused the Georgian government of attempting to launch
a new war in the Caucasus region. The Russian Foreign Ministry
maintained that "some forces in Tbilisi" are deliberately
heightening tension.
The Russian ministry claimed in a statement that forces in Georgia are trying to resume hostilities by staging a number of terror acts.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has expressed concern over the unfolding situation in an appeal to Bernard Kouchner, the Foreign Minister of France, which is brokering a settlement to the Russian-Georgian conflict, the statement said.
The relations between Moscow and Tbilisi soured after military stand-off in Georgia`s breakaway republic of South Ossetia. Georgia launched large-scale military operations to restore its territorial integrity on August 8. Moscow retaliated by sending troops to the pro-Russian region, which struck at the Georgian armed forces using overwhelming force. A ceasefire was, subsequently, reached on August 17 .
