Gul: Instability may turn S Caucasus into East-West wall
Turkish President Abdullah Gul has warned of grave consequences if
the South Caucasus region destabilizes.
"Stability will turn the region into a door between the East and West. Thus, if it is disrupted, the region will become a wall between the East and West," he told Newsweek magazine.
Gul said the region is extremely important for safely transporting Azerbaijan`s abundant energy resources to Western markets.
"Turkey is also an inseparable part of this corridor and, therefore, it will play a greater role in resolving lingering conflicts and restoring peace in the South Caucasus," he added.
