By Mushvig Mehdiyev
Georgia and Turkey are strategic partner not only in the region, but also in the international arena, Georgian Parliamentary Speaker David Usupashvili said in a meeting with his Turkish counterpart in Tbilisi.
Chairman of the Turkish Parliament Cemil Cicek launched his official visit to Georgia on November 3 to discuss bilateral relations.
Usupashvili thanked Turkey for its support for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity, saying Turkey has always supported and now supports the South Caucasus country's integration into the EU and NATO.
"That's the first visit of the Turkish parliamentary speaker to Georgia over the last 20 years. We held friendly, efficient and fruitful talks and once more confirmed the commitment to our strategic partnership. We agreed to boost relations between our parliaments," Usupashvili said.
He noted that the Turkish government intends to make its contributions to keep peace and stability in the South Caucasus, particularly to the regulation of the regional conflicts.
Cicek, on his turn, said the bilateral relations of Georgia and Turkey were example to the whole world.
"Stability and welfare in Georgia are very significant for Turkey, as the two countries are neighbors. We attach great importance to the peace, stability and progress in the region," Cicek noted.
He also stressed the importance of the projects realized between Georgia, Azerbaijan and Turkey, specially noting the construction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway.
