Iran says nuclear deal can be reached before deadline
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Tehran has taken positive steps in previous rounds of nuclear talks with the P5+1 group of countries.
He made the remark at a meeting with Norwegian Ambassador to Tehran Odyssey Norheim.
"If the other side shows political will, reaching a comprehensive agreement in the next month would be possible," he said, the official website of the Iranian president reported on October 27. "Efforts to reach a comprehensive and win-win deal helps Tehran to boost its relations with the European Union's members."
The Iranian president further said Iran's nuclear activities are peaceful and will remain so in the future.
"We are working in the framework of Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and the International Atomic Energy Agency's experts are supervising our program," Rouhani said.
Iran and P5+1 (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council comprising of China, France, Russia, Britain, the US Plus Germany) sealed an interim deal in Geneva on November 24, 2013 to pave the way for the full resolution of the West's decade-old dispute with Iran over the country's nuclear energy program.
The Geneva deal took effect on January 20 and expired on July 20. However the two sides agreed to extend their talks for four months till Nov. 24 to reach a permanent deal on Iran's disputed nuclear program.
In exchange for Iran agreeing to limit certain aspects of its nuclear activities, the US and its allies agreed to lift some of the existing sanctions against Tehran.
