Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan freight traffic ups
The freight traffic between Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan stood at
1.4 million metric tons in January-July 2014, Turkmen Ambassador to
Kazakhstan Magtymguly Akmyradov said on October 9.
"During this period, the freight traffic between Kazakhstan and
Turkmenistan amounted to 1.4 million metric tons, increasing by 42
percent compared to the same period of the last year," he said.
The ambassador said the growth in the freight traffic is due to the
commissioning of the Kazakh-Turkmen section of the
Uzen-Kyzylkaya-Bereket-Etrek railway in 2013.
He said over half the volume of the freight traffic between the two
countries accounts for the Uzen-Bereket railway crossing.
The total length of the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway is
934.5 kilometers.
The longest part of it - 722.5 kilometers - runs through
Turkmenistan.
Some 130 kilometers of the railway run through Kazakhstan, and 82
kilometers - through Iran.
