Kazakhstan, Tajikistan mull multifaceted cooperation

By Aynur Jafarova

The issues of friendship relations and multifaceted cooperation between Kazakhstan and Tajikistan were high on the agenda of talks between Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and his Kazakh counterpart Nursultan Nazarbayev.

"We are convinced that the multifaceted relations between Tajikistan and Kazakhstan will continue to remain as a model example of the strengthening and development of regional cooperation, will serve the true interests of our countries and peoples," Rahmon noted.

Nazarbayev, in turn, said Kazakhstan is 'the second largest trading partner of Tajikistan' among the CIS countries after Russia, noting that his country has always been and always will be near Tajikistan.

The sides also mentioned the necessity to accelerate the activity of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Cooperation and improve working conditions of the Direct Investment Fund of Tajikistan and Kazakhstan, established in 2008.

The two leaders also expressed confidence that the conditions of using the financial resources of the Fund will become more attractive for entrepreneurs by developing and supplying new instruments of cooperation between the two countries.

Nazarbayev and Rahmon also discussed the issues of bilateral cooperation within the regional and international organizations, and exchanged views on relevant issues of the international agenda.

Diplomatic relations between Tajikistan and Kazakhstan were established in January, 1993.

The Tajik-Kazakh bilateral relations have been traditionally built in line with the mutually beneficial cooperation. The relations are successfully developing in the political, trade, economic, scientific, technical, cultural and other fields.
