Iran to offer strategy on Caucasus stability
Iran is getting ready to offer a strategy aiming to restore
stability in the South Caucasus, its foreign minister Manouchehr
Mottaki said.
"By exchanging views, we are looking to work out a proper strategy on bolstering peace and security in the region," he said in a recent meeting with his German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier. "It is important to preserve and further welfare and stability in the Caucasus, and Iran supports peace in this key region."
Mottaki said the Iranian government has already held talks on the issue with Azerbaijan and Russia. He also discussed it with Armenian Foreign Minister Eduard Nalbandian on Tuesday during the latter`s visit to Tehran.
Steinmeier, for his part, said Germany was in favor of promoting peace and security in the Caucasus and supported any proposal seeking to accomplish that goal.
Mottaki visited Baku last Saturday and met with President Ilham Aliyev.
