Tbilisi says large-scale confrontation in Europe must be prevented

Georgia's Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili voiced concern over the reports of direct military aggression in the eastern regions of Ukraine.

Garibashvili made a statement on August 29 in response to recent events in Ukraine and once again expressed support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country.

"Everyone should respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, as well as its right to establish order and to ensure full protection of the rights and freedoms of every citizen of the country," the prime minister said. "International community should not allow large-scale confrontation in Europe and redistribution of borders by force. All efforts should be made for peace and stability in Ukraine."

He noted that Georgia firmly supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders.

"We believe that the difficult situation in Ukraine should be resolved on the basis of this principle,"the prime minister said.
