Iran, P5+1 start drafting final deal: Iranian media reports

By Sara Rajabova

Iran and six world powers started drafting the text of a comprehensive agreement on the third day of their sixth round of nuclear talks in Vienna.

The two sides began drafting the text on July 4 in a meeting between Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, Abbas Araqchi and Deputy EU Foreign Policy Director, Helga Schmidt.

The meeting between Araqchi and Schmidt began at 9 am Vienna time (11:30 Tehran time) in Vienna's Coburg Hotel, where the seven countries' negotiating delegations reside.

The last round of Iran-5+1 Group (comprised of the UN Security Council big 5 and Germany) before the July 20 deadline for the end of the Geneva Agreement, is aimed at achieving a comprehensive nuclear agreement between the two sides.

This round of talks had started on July 2 with bilateral and multilateral meetings, as well as general meeting of the entire participating delegations in the Austrian capital city. It is going to be the longest one of its kind with 18-day duration.

Ever since the beginning of Vienna negotiations , the Iranian negotiating delegation has had two bilateral meetings with the U.S. delegation and bilateral meetings with the officials of three European countries and Russia.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has also personally had bilateral and trilateral meetings with the EU Foreign policy Director Baroness Catherine Ashton and the U.S. Deputy Secretary of State William Burns.

Araqchi said earlier that during the previous round of negotiations the text had been prepared, but there were differences between sides on almost all its paragraphs and lots of works need to be done to proximate the viewpoints in several meetings before the final text could be drafted and agreed upon.

He said every delegation's efforts are aimed at using the remaining time before the July 20 deadline to finalize the final agreement.

P5+1 and Iran reached an interim pact last November under which Iran won some relief from economic sanctions in return for reining in some of its nuclear activities.

Their goal is to reach a comprehensive nuclear agreement that would lay to rest Western concerns about the Iranian program and comprehensively ease sanctions on Tehran by July 20.
