Uzbekistan and the European Union (EU) have mulled further expansion of trade and economic cooperation.

The discussions were held between Uzbek Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, Investment and Trade and head of the EU delegation Yuri Stärk in Tashkent.

The sides discussed issues of further expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation in trade-economic, investment, and financial-technical cooperation.

The relations between Uzbekistan and the EU are being developed as part of the agreement on partnership and cooperation, signed in June 1996.

Currently, Uzbekistan conducts a dialogue with the EU as part of five joint bodies - Cooperation Council, Cooperation Committee, the Parliamentary Cooperation Committee, Subcommittee on Trade and Investment, Subcommittee on Justice, Home Affairs, Human Rights and related issues.

Some 850 enterprises with European capital operate in the country. The representative offices of nearly 300 companies from the EU countries have been accredited to the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, Investment and Trade.
