Georgia is negotiating with NATO members on the country's security and defense armament, Georgia's Defense Minister Irakli Alasania said on June 25.

"NATO's armament is associated with the armament of its member countries. When we are talking about providing a country with NATO's military potential, we mean that it should be decided through negotiations among its member nations that possess such potential, will it be air defense or any other type of armament," he said.

"I should add that the negotiations about the issue are ongoing successfully. I hope that the results of the talks will become public very soon," he added.

Special Representative of the NATO Secretary General for the South Caucasus and Central Asia James Appathurai recently said the alliance cannot provide Georgia with defensive devices.

"NATO as an organization does not have defensive systems," he noted.
