By Aynur Jafarova
Turkmenistan produced over 62.3 billion cubic meters of gas in 2013, which is 0.4 percent more compared to 2012, the British BP's report called 'Statistical Review of World Energy' said.
Turkmenistan produced 1.8 percent of the world gas production in 2013. The gas consumption in the country stood at 22.3 billion cubic meters during the reported period, which is by 15.5 percent less than in 2012.
Turkmenistan is one of the key players in the energy market of the resource-rich Caspian region. The Central Asian state has the world's fourth largest natural gas reserves after Russia, Iran, and Qatar, and produces about 70-80 billion cubic meters of gas per year.
The country's Galkynysh field located in the Mary province is considered the second largest deposit in the world, with reserves of 26.2 trillion cubic meters. Thanks to the opening of Galkynysh gas field, the total proven reserves and potential hydrocarbon resources of Turkmenistan have significantly increased.
BP also said Turkmenistan produced 0.3 percent of the world oil production volume in 2013.
The oil consumption in this country stood at 6.3 million tons in 2013, which is by 2.8 percent more compared to 2012.
Turkmenoil State Concern, which occupies a leading position in Turkmenistan's economy and is involved in the production of oil and gas, chemicals, stone, and bentonite, currently operates about three dozen fields, including more than 600 oil and gas deposits that are at various stages of development.
The fields that have been recently developed in Turkmenistan include Chekishler, Garadurun, South Kamyshlyja, and Nebitlije.
Burren Energy (the branch of Eni), Mitro, Dragon Oil, Petronas are among the foreign companies that produce oil in Turkmenistan under the production sharing agreements.
Kazakhstan
BP's report also said oil production in Kazakhstan increased by 3.5 percent up to 1.785 million barrels per day in 2013.
Kazakhstan's share in world gas production made up two percent last year.
BP forecasts that oil consumption in the country increased by 5.9 percent up to 287,000 barrels per day in 2013.
The proved oil reserves in Kazakhstan amounted to 30 billion barrels at the end of 2013, which is 1.8 percent of the world's proven oil reserves.
Kazakhstan, one of the five Central Asian countries, is rich with hydrocarbon reserves. The county's largest hydrocarbon fields are Kashagan, Tengiz, and Karachaganak.
BP also noted gas production in Kazakhstan increased by 0.8 percent up to 18.5 billion cubic meters in 2013.
Last year gas consumption in the country increased by 9.6 percent up to 11.4 billion cubic meters.
Proven gas reserves in Kazakhstan made up 1.5 trillion cubic meters at the end of 2013, which is 0.8 percent of the world's proven gas reserves.
Kazakhstan plans to produce 41 billion cubic meters of gas in 2014.
Uzbekistan
Uzbekistan's proven oil reserves amounted to 100 million tons or 0.6 billion barrels and its natural gas reserves to 1.1 trillion cubic meters in 2013, which corresponds to the level of 2012, BP stressed.
BP experts said Uzbekistan reduced oil production by 7.1 percent-to 2.9 million tons of oil in 2013. On average, Uzbekistan extracted 63,000 barrels of oil per day.
Oil consumption increased by 2.1 percent up to 3.3 million tons in the country last year compared to 2012. The average daily oil consumption was 70,000 barrels in the country in 2013.
BP also said Uzbekistan extracted 55.2 billion cubic meters of natural gas in 2013, which is 2.8 percent less than in 2012. Gas consumption decreased by 3.3 percent-to 45.2 billion cubic meters in 2013.
Uzbekneftegas National Holding Company produces 70 billion cubic meters of natural gas and 8 million tons of liquid hydrocarbons per year.
The recoverable proven reserves of hydrocarbons in Uzbekistan amounted to more than 2.52 billion tons of fuel equivalent. Some 65 percent of this amount falls to natural gas reserves.
