Turkmenistan to establish technologies park
By Aynur Jafarova
Turkmenistan will establish a center for technologies.
The relevant decision was envisaged in Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov's decree on the establishment of such a technological park.
The center for technologies which will be administered by Turkmen Academy of Sciences is scheduled to be commissioned in Ashgabat in June. It will have the modern technologies and equipment.
Turkish Polimeks Insaat Taahhut ve Sanayi Ticaret A.S. has been engaged in its construction since 2012. The technological park's project presented by Polimeks includes a technology shop and a museum.
It is designed to promote the innovative activity and partly resembles academic towns operating during the Soviet period.
The first technology parks in the world were established in the U.S. The first technological park in the USSR was established in the city of Tomsk in 1988, based on the experience of one of the innovative regions of France.
Turkmenistan embarked on the path of active usage of alternative energy sources, particularly solar and wind energy, and the development of nanotechnologies for the country's progressive movement.
This center will serve to pursue science, technology and innovation policies of Turkmenistan, creation and introduction of competitive, material- and energy-efficient, environmentally safe high technologies and innovations, strengthening of interrelation between the scientific sphere and sectors of the national economy.
