Kazakhstan to ensure its own electricity demand
By Aynur Jafarova
Kazakhstan will be fully provided with its own electricity by 2030.
The news was announced by Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and New Technologies Asset Issekeshev at a press conference in Astana on May 27.
"The concept for development of Kazakhstan's fuel and energy complex till 2030 has approved the balance of power generating facilities. It has been drawn up to prevent shortage and ensure the energy security and supply with domestic electricity," he said.
Issekeshev also noted as a result of including the nuclear power plants in the electricity balance, Kazakhstan will be able to export electricity by 2030.
The deputy prime minister went on to add that the concept for development of the country's fuel and energy complex also envisages the strengthening of the power transmission structures.
"Only large power supply organizations without small mediators should remain in the market. And the prices for electricity will be maintained at a reasonable level for consumers," Issekeshev said.
Electricity generation amounted to 91.9 billion kilowatt / hours in Kazakhstan in 2013. This is 1.9 percent more than in 2012.
