Georgia awaits positive signal from EU on visa liberalization
By Jamila Babayeva
Georgia expects a positive signal from the European Union at the Riga Summit regarding the visa liberalization.
Deputy Foreign Minister Tamar Beruchashvili made the remarks at the seminar on the topic 'Prospects for association agreement between Georgia and EU' organized by the EU-Georgia Business Council.
Noting that the action plan on visa liberalization consists of two phases, Beruchashvili pointed out that the first phase is almost complete.
"The action plan on visa liberalization consists of two phases: legislative and implementation phases. Currently we are completing the first, legislative phase. Almost all the obligations have been fulfilled," she said. "Here are some figures: up to 50 new laws and legislative amendments, around 40 acts and 10 new, large-scale strategies and action plans on all sectors."
Beruchashvili added that the implementation phase will start in autumn.
She recently said Georgia can achieve a visa-free regime with the EU member states by 2016.
