NATO’s position on Georgia remains unchanged: official

By Jamila Babayeva

Georgia will become a member of the NATO, the special representative of alliance's Secretary General said.

"Georgia will become a member of the NATO, this policy has not changed, and no one wants to change it," James Appathurai emphasized.

Appathurai went to say the NATO has not changed its position.

"At the meeting of foreign ministers in June we will examine the progress being made by all four candidate countries on the path of rapprochement with NATO," he said. "We will present a report related to this issue, and a decision to forward will be adopted at the summit."

He believes that the NATO will adopt a concrete decision on Georgia, which will be a step forward in an integration process to the alliance.

"I am sure there will be real steps in favor of Georgia. Secretary General has noted clearly that Georgia has implemented significant reforms," Appathurai said.

Georgia is actively preparing for the NATO London summit on September 4-5, 2014 and intends to get a NATO Membership Action Plan (MAP).
