Georgia and Canada intend to enhance ties and strengthen legislative base between the countries.

Director responsible for Eastern and Southern Europe, Turkey, Central Asia in the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development, Jennifer May has visited Georgia on March 27-29, the Georgian Foreign Ministry reported.

During the visit, Georgia and Canada held bilateral political consultations. The sides discussed current issues of political and economic co-operation.

Special emphasis was made on the need to enhance ties and to strengthen legislative base between Canada and Georgia in the educational and cultural spheres, and to exchange high level visits. In this context, the discussions focused on the visit of the Canadian Foreign Minister, John Baird to Georgia in the nearest future.

Canada as an important partner strongly supports Georgia's sovereignty, territorial integrity and Euro-Atlantic aspirations.

He said the Georgian government is waiting for the next stage of political consultations between the foreign ministries of two countries and would be glad for opening of Canadian embassy in Georgia.
