Georgia-EU association agreement to be agreed by late March

The text of the Association Agreement between Georgia and the EU will be agreed and ready for signing by late March.

Georgian Foreign Minister Maia Panjikidze made the remark after the meeting with EU Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Stefan Fule.

"Georgia and the EU express a desire to sign a document of the association as soon as possible. Both sides are working intensively over the necessary procedures," she said. "It was agreed that the text should be agreed in time, presumably by the end of March."

Georgia initialed association agreement with the EU at a summit in Vilnius dedicated to the European Union's 'Eastern Partnership' countries - ex-Soviet states on November 29, 2013. The signing of the Association Agreement is scheduled for August 2014.

Fule within his visit to Georgia also met with Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili. During the face-to-face meeting the sides discussed issues of Georgia- EU cooperation. Garibashvili said Fule's visit represents one more confirmation of the EU's steadfast support to Georgia on its way towards Euro-integration process.
