Georgia to back EU’s operation in CAR
By Jamila Babayeva
Georgia considers issue of participation in the military mission in Central Africa Republic, Defense Minister Irakli Alasania told reporters.
Georgia voiced a desire to participate in the mission, although the final decision is still pending. The related consultations were already held in Brussels, local media reports.
Alasania said Georgian public will be informed about this issue in more detail.
"Georgia addressed to the European Union with this request. The Georgian army has big experience in combat operations in hot spots, but Georgia has discussing this proposal," he noted.
Presumably, Georgian soldiers returning from Afghanistan will be deployed to the CAR.
Georgia has been assisting the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan since 2004. Some 1,600 Georgian servicemen serve in Afghanistan.
