Attempt to sever Georgia -Armenia railway link
Unidentified individuals have attempted to blow up a railway bridge linking Georgia with neighboring Armenia in the Marneuli district.
An anti-tank mine planted under one of the bridge`s footholds exploded on Friday morning, but the blast did not bring down the structure, said David Kirkitadze, the governor of the Kvemo-Kartly region.
An investigation has been launched into the incident.
Kirkitadze regarded the explosion as "a provocation seeking to deal another blow to Georgia`s transport system."
"The bridge serves to deliver cargo to Armenia, and the perpetrators obviously tried to sever transportation of consignments to this republic," he added.
