Georgia's Foreign Minister Maia Panjikidze, referring to the recent open letter by several U.S. lawmakers calling for expansion of ties between Washington and Tbilisi, said the letter shows the U.S. Congresmen support the new government in Georgia.
In the open letter to U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, forty-two U.S. lawmakers called for deeper cooperation with Georgia for receiving MAP at the upcoming NATO summit.
Panjikidze said, during his visit to Munich, the Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili held a meeting with a delegation of US congressmen.
"It was a delegation of 20 people, headed by Congressman John McCain. The two sides discussed all problems that Georgia is currently grappling with. The letter published after this meeting can be regarded as an expression of strong support for Georgia's new government," she noted.
During Munich meeting, the Georgian PM and U.S. lawmakers discussed various issues including bilateral relations, the progress achieved by Georgia on its path of accession to NATO and EU, NATO summit planned for 2014 and the signing of association agreement between Georgia and EU.
