By Jamila Babayeva

Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili and CoE Secretary General Thorbjorn Yagland discussed the cooperation issues between Georgia and the Council of Europe, as well as the objectives as part of the action plan on February 6.

The sides also considered the reforms carried out in Georgia and the elections to the local self-government, the president's press-service reported.

The sides paid a particular attention to the new constitution, under which the balance of power and democratic development of the country will be ensured.

Margvelashvili assured Yagland in the inviolability of Georgia's political course of joining the European Union.

"Georgia continues moving towards Europe with confidence," he said. "This will influence the welfare of the citizens."

Yagland updated the president with the action plan, envisaging the implementation of democratic reforms. He welcomed the fact that the beginning of this plan coincides with the 15th anniversary of Georgia's membership in the Council of Europe.

"We are observing ongoing events in Georgia and want to stress that the country is on the right way," Jagland added. "The fact that an association agreement has been initialed and it will be signed soon once again confirms my words."
