By Jamila Babayeva
Greek Sophia Shamanidi was appointed as the adviser for Georgian President Giorgi Margvelasvili on national minorities.
Margvelashvili introduced a new adviser at the meeting with representatives of non-governmental organizations working on protecting the rights of national minorities living in Georgia on January 29.
He said Georgia is a multiethnic country and each ethnic community is important for the country.
Shamanidi said she will try to be in constant contact with ethnic minorities, so that the president has always been aware of their problems.
"I also will try to do everything that representatives of ethnic minorities do not feel themselves as second-class citizens," she noted.
She also touched some problems of ethnic minorities.
"The main problem is to maintain the identity and traditions. I have a work experience with ethnic minorities. I am a member of this group, so perfectly know their problems and deal with them every day," she added.
Shamanidi intends to visit Georgia's regions where representatives of different national minorities live.
