Turkey to further back Georgia’s NATO integration
By Jamila Babayeva
Turkey will continue to support Georgia on its accession to NATO and Euro-Atlantic structures, Turkish President Abdullah Gul said at a joint press conference following a meeting with Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili in Ankara on January 20.
Turkey has a great significance for the stability in the region, Gul stated.
"There are several best examples of relations between our countries. In particular, communication is possible using only the identity card. Together we use the Batumi airport. We are also working on the principle of one window, which I hope will be introduced soon," Gul said.
He stated that Turkey attaches great importance to stability in the region.
"Based on this, we want a peaceful settlement of the regional conflicts within the restoration of territorial integrity. At the same time, the conflicts in Abkhazia and in so-called South Ossetia should be resolved peacefully. We continue to support Georgia with the aim of its joining NATO and Euro-Atlantic structures," Gul said.
Margvelashvili in turn praised the Georgia-Azerbaijan-Turkey transnational projects.
"The joint projects go beyond the boundaries of the region and actually become projects of Eurasian continent," he said.
Margvelashvili has started his state visit to Turkey on January 20.
