The Kyrgyz parliament has adopted a decision on the armed incident occurred on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border on January 11, Kabar agency reported on January 15.

The document instructs the appropriate state bodies and recommends implementing the demands of the local population, to prevent the clashes, to close the borders until resolving the issue.

An armed incident occurred between the servicemen of the State Border Service of Kyrgyzstan and border troops of the Tajik State National Security Committee near the main water intake structure of Batken region in Kyrgyzstan's Batken province.

Officials say five Kyrgyz border guards, one policeman, and three Tajik border guards were hospitalized with injuries after shootouts along the border.

Following the incident, Kyrgyzstan has closed its border with Tajikistan. Kyrgyzstan has recalled its ambassador to Dushanbe.

Currently, the Kyrgyz State Border Service said the situation in the Kyrgyz-Tajik border has been settled.

The border service noted the Kyrgyz side raised the issue about the situation at the border and expressed the need to resolve the problems only through negotiations. The Tajik side has confirmed readiness to resolve the situation through diplomatic channels and prevent the escalation of the conflict at the border.

It is expected that the heads of border services of the two countries will hold a private meeting to develop joint measures to stabilize the situation at the state border.

This is not the first incident on the Tajik-Kyrgyz border. Clashes along the border occurred several times in 2013. Many areas along borders in Central Asia remain in dispute after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991.
