Signing Association Agreement is main strategy of Georgia
By Nazrin Gadimova
Georgia, where exemplary European elections were held, is an
integral part of Europe, new Georgian President Giorgi
Margvelashvili said on November 22.
According to the president, signing the Association Agreement with
the EU during the ongoing year is the main strategy of the Georgian
government.
"We had a rough, European-style election, which is a very good
evidence to present to Europe," Margvelashvili said. "We believe
that Georgia is an integral part of Europe. We focus our attention
on the future plans - the subsequent period after initialing and
signing of the agreement."
The president also said that the Georgian society and the political
spectrum have common views on the choice of Georgia.
"We stressed that this is a choice, around which the whole of
society are actively consolidated. Accordingly, we as the country
will overcome together if any difficulties and challenges arise.
And naturally, we have an ambitious plan to sign the Association
Agreement within a year after initialing - remains the main
strategy of our government," the president said.
Margvelashvili will head the Georgian delegation at the Eastern
Partnership Summit, to be held in Vilnius on November 28-29.
Georgia started negotiations on the Association Agreement in July
2010. The Agreement will replace the 1996 agreement on partnership
and cooperation with the EU. Georgia expects to initial the
association agreement with the EU at the Eastern Partnership
Summit.
