Turkmenistan to host int'l event on energy security

A two-day conference on the issues of energy security organised by Turkmenistan jointly with the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) will be opened on Thursday in Ashgabat.

The 'Energy Security and sustainable development - the future of OSCE' will be the keynote of the event.

Ukraine's Foreign Ministry is the co-organiser of the conference.

Turkmenistan joined OSCE on January 30, 1992. Several large international OSCE and UN forums including those on energy security have been recently held in Ashgabat.

Ashgabat considers it appropriate to intensify the energy dialogue within OSCE, to formulate the mechanisms for multilateral consultations on political, financial-economic, technological and environmental aspects of construction and operation of the multiple pipeline infrastructures.

The country has voiced several initiatives to ensure a reliable and stable supply of energy resources to the world markets within the UN.

Turkmenistan ranks fourth in natural gas reserves in the world. The country is exporting this fuel to the markets of China, the CIS countries and Iran. The variants of laying the gas pipelines from Turkmenistan to the markets of South Asia and Europe are being examined.
