US Congressman tries to oust Armenian journalist over `genocide` question
Reports claim a US Congressman attempted to remove a journalist who
asked him a question about the "genocide of Armenians" during a
news conference.
The Armenian reporter, Peter Musurlian, who works for a California-based public TV channel, asked Steve Cohen, a member of the House of Representatives, why the lawmaker had come out against a bill on the alleged genocide, Armenian media reported. The congressman was angered by the question and sought to remove the reporter, pledging to continue fighting the proposed legislation on the Armenian genocide.
Later, Aram Ambarian, executive director of the Armenian National Committee of America, called the congressman`s actions, "hooliganism".
219 members of the US Congress have co-signed a bill, labeling as genocide the purported mass killings of Armenians by Turkey in 1915. Armenians maintain Ottoman Turks killed 1.5 million people, while Ankara strenuously denies the "genocide" claims.
