32 deaths in Armenian army in six months
The Armenian army has lost 32 servicemen in the first half of 2008,
Military Prosecutor Armen Khachaturyan told a board meeting last
week.
Seventeen casualties took place during military service. Also, two Armenian soldiers were killed by Azerbaijani servicemen, while two others apparently shot each other, and one serviceman died as a result of a mine explosion.
Khachaturyan said suicides were also causes of death as two servicemen killed themselves over the six-month period. Another cause of casualties was diseases, he said.
Khachaturyan said that, in comparison with the same period in 2007, the number of accidents has increased by 246, while those caused by crimes is up by 60 cases.
