Georgia's Ivanishvili says no pressure on media in country

Today, no one can say that there is a pressure on the media in Georgia, Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili said.

"Journalists are genuine fourth power, which performs a very important function. Personally, I and the government did everything possible in order to make information available to media, as well as information on media freedom. I think that after the October elections a genuine turning point occurred, and today no one can say, if the one is not too critical, that the authorities put pressure on media," he said at a meeting with TV reporters on Wednesday.

In his words, "media needs to develop like the rest of society."

"We need to improve the quality of broadcast. According to the statistics, as far as I know, 87 percent of the population receives information from television, so there is more responsibility on television. The population is in need of objective information, correct analysis and journalists play a big role in it," Ivanishvili said.

He said that in two weeks he will meet with representatives of the print media.
