The Georgian government is doing a lot in order to defuse the situation and achieve international response to Russia's actions in the separatist regions, Georgia's Foreign Minister Maia Panjikidze said on September 30.

"Today we are receiving 28 ambassadors of the EU Committee on the policy and security and persons accompanying them," Panjikidze said. "They are now in the region of the so-called border to see these barbwires, which the Russian side sets. We will have a meeting with them throughout the day and I am sure that their statement will be very useful for Georgia."

Earlier, the Georgian Foreign Ministry accused Russia of flagrant violation of the principles of international law noting that the barriers prevent the relations between the nations.

As the Georgian Interior Ministry reported, the Russian forces continue the preparatory work for the construction of fences in the Dvani village of the Kareli region.

According to Panjikidze, she recently returned from New York, where she held about 60 meetings, the main theme of which was the situation in Ditsi and Dvani villages.

"The only tool we have is the support of the international community," Panjikidze said.

Russia recognized the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia in late August of 2008. In response, Tbilisi broke diplomatic relations with Moscow and has called the two unrecognized republics of Abkhazia and South Ossetia occupied territories.
