The Caspian region rapidly becomes one of the world's largest centers for the production and processing of hydrocarbon resources, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said at the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers in Ashgabat.

"Today our main task is to combine the objective economic interests with the need to preserve the environment and water, biological diversity of the Caspian Sea, as well as prevent violations of the fragile ecological balance," Berdimuhamedov said.

He went on to say that the unique natural environment of the Caspian Sea, which is the real gem of nature with an exceptionally diverse flora and fauna is the province of all mankind, and therefore requires special attention of the international community.

Berdimuhamedov instructed to intensify cooperation with other countries and international organizations for the implementation of joint projects on conservation of biological diversity, climate change, environmental protection and rational use of natural resources.

The other day it was reported that Turkmenistan considers it reasonable to create a new cooperation mechanism under the auspices of the UN, International ecological dialogue on the Caspian Sea, in order to consolidate efforts of the Caspian Sea countries in the sphere of environmental protection.
