US delegation to visit Georgia

A U.S Department of State delegation will visit Georgia this week in order to re-stress the importance of compliance with the principles of democracy while holding presidential elections scheduled for October 27.

The Department of State reported that the delegation will be led by Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor Relations Thomas Melia and Assistant Director of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Paige Alexander.

"In order to show a great significance which the US attaches to democratic election processes, the delegation will also include the officials from U.S Departments of Security and Justice," the report reads.

Also, the American delegation will meet with the representatives of the government, political parties, employees of election commissions, parliament members, and leaders of civil society and the defenders of freedom of press in Georgia.
