Georgia seeks to evacuate its citizens from Syria
The Georgian Foreign Ministry develops safe route for removal of its citizens from Syria.
Deputy Director of the Ministry's Consulate Department Inga Kikvadze told journalists that the ministry works on a plan together with the partner countries.
Earlier, the ministry spokesman said that there is no Georgian citizen in Syria, as everybody was taken out. But yesterday it turned out that 22 Georgian citizens were still in Damascus and they asked the country's government to organize their safe removal from Syria.
The spokesman confirmed that 22 Georgian citizens are still in Syria, and for their removal from the country their desire is needed, as the Ministry can do nothing against their will.
Kikvadze noted that the Georgian Embassy in Egypt has been in constant contact with their nationals in Syria since 2011.
"The present situation is not easy, therefore, the implementation of appropriate measures is fraught with difficulties," she noted.
Kikvadze underscored that Foreign Ministry does everything possible to assist the Georgian citizens.
The ministry considers the route through Beirut as the safest route for removal of country's citizens.
