EU Monitoring Mission is concerned over uncoordinated visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Abkhazia, the EU Delegation to Georgia reported on August 27.

"The EU Delegation thinks that it is not consistent with the principles of state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia," the statement reads. "The EU Delegation once again emphasizes its commitment to and support the integrity and sovereignty of Georgia within its internationally recognized borders. Representation of the EU also emphasizes that it adheres to the principle of peaceful settlement of conflicts and attaches great importance to it, calling on the parties to make every effort in this direction."

On the eve Georgia sent a note to Russia in connection with Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to the separatist region of the country.

President Putin visited Abkhazia on August 25. He met with Head of breakaway republic of Abkhazia Alexander Ankvab. On August 26, celebrations in Abkhazia on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the recognition of its independence by the Russian Federation were held.

Georgia and Russia, its giant northern neighbor, have maintained no diplomatic relations since a brief war in 2008. Tbilisi broke off relations with Moscow in August 2008 when Moscow crushed a Georgian assault to reassert control over two rebel regions -- South Ossetia and Abkhazia -- and later recognized the regions. Georgia announced the two unrecognized republics as occupied territories in September 2008.
