By Aynur Jafarova
Uzbekistan is introducing a ban on the export of waste and recyclables of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) from September 1, 2013, the Uzbek State Customs Committee told Trend on August 19.
The government has undertaken this step in accordance with the decree "On the Regulation of export of secondary polymer raw materials", issued by President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov on August 8, 2013.
According to the decree, waste, parings and scrap of PET is included in a list of subjects and products, which are prohibited for export. The list was approved by presidential decree, dated October 10, 1997.
The State Tax Committee of Uzbekistan was entrusted to set control over illegal exports of waste, parings and waste of PET.
The Customs Committee reminded that the list of banned for export goods also includes all kinds of grains, bakery products, flour, livestock and poultry, meat and edible meat offal, edible offal of poultry, sugar, antiques (paintings, sculptures, etc.), representing a significant artistic, historical, scientific or other cultural value, vegetable oils, raw leathers, furs, including karakul, waste and scrap of non-ferrous metals, silk cocoons and raw silk.
Earlier in February, the Uzbek president instructed the relevant ministries and agencies to prepare critical review of the list and range of imported consumer goods by the end of February and to submit proposals for the drastic cut in the list and the volume of their imports to the Uzbek Cabinet of Ministers.
The main objective of reducing the volume of imported consumer products is to increase the domestic production.
