Tajikistan eyes options for regional railway route
Tajikistan is considering two different routes of inter-country section of the Tajikistan-Turkmenistan-Afghanistan railway, Tajik Railways head Amonullo Khukumov said.
The first of these routes envisages construction of a 50
kilometer long section of the railway from Djaloliddin Rumi to
Nizhny Panj and an 800 meters long railway bridge over Panj River.
The project of the second route which should be much shorter is
under development.
He said that following a final decision on the route and developing
the feasibility study of the project, talks will be launched with
investors and creditors to implement it.
The Afghan section of the Tajikistan-Turkmenistan-Afghanistan
railway will be the longest and its length will hit 500 kilometers.
Some 90 kilometers of the railway will run over Turkmenistan's
territory.
Afghanistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan signed a memorandum on the
construction of the railway on the results of talks between
Presidents Hamid Karzai, Emomali Rahmon and Gurbanguly
Berdymukhamedov in Ashgabat in late March.
