By Nazrin Gadimova
Kazakhstan's Central Election Commission registered 7,018 people
as mayoral candidates (akim) for cities of regional importance,
rural districts, towns and villages which are not included in rural
districts, as of registration deadline on July 24, the Kazakh CEC
reported.
In total 7,173 people were nominated as the candidates for the
elections.
Following the nomination procedure 46 candidates withdrew their
candidatures.
Moreover, the regional election commissions refused to register 55
nominated candidates, who failed to meet requirements envisaged in
the law on gubernatorial elections.
After the procedures ended, 51 registered candidates dropped out.
Some 15 of them withdrew their candidature by their own, while the
candidatures of 36 people were removed by regional election
commissions as these candidates provided untrue information about
their income and property.
All the registered candidates have the right to start the election
campaign.
Mayoral elections in Kazakhstan are held at the meeting of elector MPs of the corresponding region's Maslikhat (local representative body). Meetings of the electors will be held in the electoral regions of Kazakhstan on August 5-9, 2013.
